On Monday, we celebrated Language Day with inspiring and enriching events that highlighted the beauty of linguistic diversity within our community. Parents came in to share their native languages, offering engaging lessons in Mandarin, Russian, Romanian, Turkish, Dutch, Farsi, Italian, Tamil, Polish, Punjabi, Swedish, Gujarati, Hindi, Shona, and Afrikaans. This remarkable variety provided a unique opportunity for children to immerse themselves in a different culture and expand their understanding of the world.
On top of a session with a parent, before the day, children had to learn to count and greet one another in a different language, which they then taught another child. The children took great pride in sharing their newfound knowledge, enthusiastically teaching their peers the phrases they had learned. It was heartwarming to see them interact and communicate, bridging cultural gaps through language.
The creativity displayed by the children was truly impressive. They crafted colourful resources and devised engaging activities that brought their lessons to life. From interactive games to more traditional ones, their enthusiasm was infectious, making the learning experience enjoyable for everyone involved. Many teachers remarked on the effort the children put into how they presented the language, showcasing their creativity and enthusiasm.
The day was not only a celebration of Languages but also a testament to the strong sense of community we have fostered. It served as a reminder of the importance of Languages in connecting us to our roots and to one another. As we wrapped up the festivities, the joy and pride in our multilingual community were palpable, leaving us all inspired to continue exploring and appreciating the rich tapestry of languages that surround us. This Language Day was a memorable occasion that celebrated diversity and unity in equal measure.
Thank you to all the parents who gave up their time to give the children such an enriching experience. Thank you also to Mrs Vincent and her catering team, for all the delicious food they provided to help us celebrate the day. And thank you to the children for their hard work, and to staff for their support.
