Alex Caunt

Since qualifying as a teacher in 2014 at Chichester University with a BA Hons in Primary Education, I have taught across the Key Stage 2 age range in large Junior and Primary schools across Hampshire, before starting at Sherborne House in April 2025. Since joining, I’ve really embraced being able to bring my experiences from these schools with me to Sherborne House, and I am enjoying being able to develop my existing skills and working alongside the brilliant team of staff and children. During my time as a teacher, I have held a number of roles, including Head of PE, Maths and Computing, as well as Head of Year (across Key Stage 2) for a number of years. I started my career at Stoke Park Junior School in Eastleigh, where I taught in Year 5 for a number of years, whilst also taking on the role of Head of PE. During this time, I (alongside the children!) helped the school to earn the Gold Sports Mark for 5 consecutive years, resulting in us earning the Platinum Sports Mark. I was Head of Year in several year groups, also contributing to the improvement in the school’s Ofsted Inspection journey and improved outcomes. My teaching journey then took me onto pastures new, where I have been a Phase Leader and Year Leader across several year groups whilst leading Maths, PE and Computing. When I’m not at school, I love to spend my free time taking long walks along the beach with my wife, reading on the sofa (I’ve had to buy a Kindle, as I’m running out of space for bookshelves!) and spending quality time with my two nieces. I enjoy participating in and watching a range of sports, most notably football (I’m a long-suffering Southampton FC fan), rugby and tennis, and have spent many years coaching football at the grassroots level. Since joining in April 2025, Sherborne House has felt like home, and I’ve been blown away by the brilliant team of staff and wonderful children that I get to spend my day with!
