Enrichment

At Sherborne House, we are proud to offer a rich and varied Enrichment programme that extends learning beyond the classroom and inspires curiosity, creativity, and personal growth. From exciting clubs and hands-on workshops to educational visits and guest speaker events, our Enrichment opportunities are designed to ignite passions and broaden horizons. Whether exploring the arts, developing sporting talent, engaging in STEM activities, or discovering new interests, every pupil is encouraged to embrace new challenges and experiences that support their all-round development and love of learning.

Golden Thread Time

Friday afternoons are always an exciting time at Sherborne House as we deliver various initiatives and activities through our Golden Thread Time. We come together to work in different ways; in House groups, as Sports’ Leaders or through a range of sporting pursuits, such as sailing, skiing or climbing.  Our enrichment offer is always evolving to reflect the interests and hobbies of our children.  This term we have children working in the local community on activities such as sewing and coding.

It gives greater opportunity for us to celebrate global events, discuss and debate current affairs and to find out more about each other and to celebrate our diverse community.

Trips and Visits

Trips, visits, and workshops enhance the learning which takes place within the classroom and our school environment, whilst offering an exciting and different setting or opportunity for children to explore. These trips are vital for helping children place their academic learning in the context of the wider world, giving it greater meaning.

From Pre-Reception onwards, each year group enjoys regular termly trips, visiting a place relevant to their studies. These trips take place both locally and further afield.

Our location on Lakewood Road, means we can make the most of Hiltingbury Lakes and of our grounds. The recent development of our community wellbeing garden and our dedicated Forest School and bushcraft curriculum further enhances this provision, allowing each child ample opportunity to get outside and experience and appreciate nature locally.

A further integral part of learning at Sherborne House School is our residential programme; each child has the opportunity to experience overnight camping in school, residential camps in Hampshire and beyond. In Year 6 each child spends a much-enjoyed week away in France.

Forest School

Forest School is an educational approach that focuses on outdoor learning and connecting children with nature. It provides children with the opportunity to explore and learn in a natural environment, building their confidence, independence, and resilience while developing skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and creativity. Forest School often involves regular visits to the same woodland area, allowing children to develop a deeper understanding and relationship with the natural world around them.

Extracurricular

At Sherborne House, our extracurricular programme plays a key role in supporting the personal development and well-being of every pupil. With a wide array of clubs and activities on offer—from music, drama, and art to coding, chess, and a variety of sports—there is something to inspire and engage every interest. These opportunities allow pupils to pursue their passions, try something new, and build valuable skills such as teamwork, resilience, and creativity. Our extracurricular provision complements academic learning, helping children to develop confidence and a strong sense of identity in a supportive and stimulating environment.

External Speakers and Parent Involvement

At Sherborne House, we are keen to invite outside speakers, experts in their fields and parents at the school, to run talks and events that explore a specific area of interest. This can often be linked to PSHE learning, First Aid, cultural celebrations, learning relevant to our thematic curriculum and important events in our calendar. The choice of speaker is often driven by the curiosity and interest of our children, and can be organised by them in consultation with staff members.
