In the January Lockdown we wanted, as a school, to participate in some competitive fixtures, but obviously restrictions wouldn’t allow us on the sports fields.
We came up with the idea of an Inter Prep School Quiz, a bit like a mini University Challenge, for Years 5 & 6.
We invited local independent schools to participate as part of the fixtures list, and a number of our local friends participated:
- Twyford
- Boundary Oak
- St Swithuns
- Meoncross
After much organisation, Wednesday 17th March 2021 saw the first fixtures of the inaugural Inter Prep School Quiz with Sherborne House playing St Swithuns and Boundary Oak playing Meoncross.
Sherborne House's Year 5 team of Will, Harry, Thomas, Raajan, Thaleia and Ella opened the fixtures for the school.
The opening rounds of History, Science and Sport saw the lead change hands on three occasions before Sherborne House took control of the final two rounds of Books and General Knowledge to win the tie 25 points to 22.
The Sherborne House Year 6 team of Kea, Saachi, Zac, Henry, Jamie and Miller played an enthralling match against their counterparts from St Swithuns. Like the previous fixture the lead changed hands in the opening rounds before the score became tied at 22 all prior to the final round.
The decisive question proved to be 'A meteorologist studies what?' St Swithuns correctly answered to win the tie 28 to 27. Overall the fixture ended in a draw.
