| Year 3

The children in Year 3 have had great fun becoming rock detectives this week. They went exploring around gardens, lakes and the school grounds looking for different types of rocks, not phased by the wet weather.

Once they had found some interesting rocks, they completed some observational sketches of their rocks, labelling things that they noticed.

The children were given the challenge to research the 3 different types of rocks: sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic.

After watching clips online and conducting their own research, they were able to discuss the differences between the different types of rocks and began trying to identify what rocks they had found.

In the coming weeks, they will be carrying out investigations on their rocks, learning about fossils and even having a go at making their own ‘fossils’ out of salt dough.
