| Year 1 | Year 5 | Year 6
At Sherborne House School, the children are offered a range of opportunities for reading. One activity which the children in Year 1 particularly love is reading with the older children in the school in Year 5 and Year 6 - either having stories read to them or challenging themselves to read the stories to their buddy.
The opportunity for the older children to read with Year 1 helps to inspire the children to develop a love of reading and further highlights the importance and enjoyment of sharing stories with each other. These opportunities also allow for deep discussion about vocabulary and the children can predict what they think will happen or what a book may be about.
This week, the Year 1 children thoroughly enjoyed having their Year 5 and Year 6 buddies come and visit them for storytime. It is wonderful to listen to the conversations and to hear the excellent questioning by the older children; it looks like we have some future teachers among us!
