| Year 5

Over the past couple of weeks, the children in year 5 have been studying the Norse legend of Beowulf. They have picked out the key features from legends and written their own short bursts of descriptive writing to describe our hero (Beowulf), the setting (Mead Hall) and our evil villain Grendel’s lair.

After identifying what makes a good legend, the children in Year 5 were enthusiastic to make a start on writing their own legend. Some children kept the same characters, other children created a whole new legend of their own.

To finish the half term we gathered around a fire so that we could tell our stories like the Vikings would have done. Marshmallows ensured that it was a day that would be remembered for the remainder of the children’s time at Sherborne House.
