In preparation for designing and making, the children visited the EYFS outdoor play area to investigate and research wheels and axles on a selection of different play equipment. They explored the ways in which axles and wheels, were attached and allowed to rotate. They were able to make comparisons between wheel sizes. Back in the classroom, they explored a variety of vehicles for different purposes and looked at how vehicles are different.
The children enjoyed making their own detailed and labelled drawings of some vehicles with specific purposes. After working together in small design teams using Lego and Knex, they will begin to develop their own ideas in more detail, prior to construction.
