| Pre-Reception
Pre-Reception have been focusing on the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ By Eric Carle. This has got them interested in Minibeasts which is now our new Topic, and we thought it would be a great idea to see what insects are living in our outdoor area. We went outside with some ‘Minibeast Checklists’ to help us find out what kind of bugs might be hiding in the environment. This activity provided an opportunity for the children to talk about some of the things they observed, and encouraged them to comment and ask questions about their familiar world. The children have become interested in enhancing our outdoor area and have been talking about making a ‘Bug Hotel’ so the insects have a safe place to live! Exploration of the outdoor environment supports all of the six Areas of Learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage. And so we will be focusing on ‘Gardening’ as part of a project after half term!
