Reception have been looking at numbers and developing their understanding of the number system. Using ‘The Enormous Turnip,’ as a theme, they have used vegetables and people to add one more. Finding one less has been developed using seeds (pretend) and fruit.The children have begun to use numicon to understand number bonds to ten and teen numbers. Working in small groups and pairs, the children have had the opportunity to talk through and share their ideas and understanding of concepts enabling them to extend and deepen their learning. The children are developing their mathematical language using terminology such as total, equals, addition, adding, altogether and numeral with increasing accuracy.
