The focus this week in Year 2's maths learning has been on the ways in which we can categorise 2D shapes: looking at the number of sides, the size of angles and whether the shapes are regular or irregular.

In order to investigate the properties of 2D shapes, the children used their knowledge to sort shapes creatively according to chosen and given criteria, with peers evaluating and assessing each other. To challenge and extend learning further, the children identified lines of symmetry and created symmetrical patterns using shapes with similar properties.

The children in Year 2 are looking forward to completing some imaginative wanted posters based on a 2D shape of their choice; they will be required to describe their chosen shape, by using their knowledge of symmetry, angles and properties of shapes.

We look forward to sharing these with you soon!
