Throughout the academic year, the children in Pre-Reception have been taking part in a variety of Story Adventures events, themed on some of their favourite stories.
The children are introduced to different stories at the beginning of the session and then go on to develop their understanding of the book and characters through a range of different activities inside and outside the classroom.
The children have welcomed some new friends visiting the school for the first time during these events, as they are open to all children and families in the community. The children have been proudly showing their new visitors around their Early Years garden and their spacious classrooms!
Events like ‘Story Adventures’ are important because conversation and storytelling widen a child’s vocabulary; a wide vocabulary is decisive in eventually becoming a confident reader. The children are able to develop an imaginative world of images that can be drawn upon and daydreamed about to invent new stories. This comes alive through a variety of activities offered such as Outdoor Learning, creative and messy activities, story sequencing and use of malleable materials.
The children will be continuing their Story Adventures events next academic year. The dates for these events will be released soon. Keep an eye on our Story Adventures page for more details.
