Every year we take part in the Eastleigh and Winchester Lantern Parades with lanterns the children have designed and built themselves using a wide range of construction skills. Over half term 18 children spent a day creating their own lanterns out of tissue paper, pva glue and willow. First they had to design their lanterns taking into consideration the most effective way to use willow. During the morning session the basic structures were created, working in pairs to help each-other with the tricky bending of the willow. Then in the afternoon the equally tricky covering of wet tissue paper was applied and left to dry. The lanterns were completed with a pole and a torch and had their first airing on Saturday 18th November at the Eastleigh Christmas light switch on. We were very relieved that the weather was dry this year. We will be taking them to the Winchester Lantern Parade on 30th November 2017.
