| Reception
Reception children have enjoyed spending the majority of this week outside. Learning outside the classroom gives the children contact with the natural world and offers them experiences that are unique to outdoors, such as direct contact with the weather and the seasons. Playing and learning outside also helps children to understand and respect nature, the environment and the interdependence of humans, animals, plants, and life cycles. The children have discussed the differences between seasons and how the outdoor changes when the weather gets dryer and warmer, including the larger amount of flying insects that seem to appear from nowhere! The magnifying glasses and binoculars were put to good use as the children examined a variety of insects….and other animals. This has led to the start of a new topic based around ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. The children have enjoyed reading the story, discussing the differences between caterpillars and butterflies and are amazed by the amount of food the Very Hungry Caterpillar was able to eat.
