Throughout the Reception year, we encourage the children to gain independence in their approach to learning. One of the ways in which we do this is by giving the children ownership of their themes of learning.

Last week, the Reception children decided they wanted to learn about “Frozen” - the ice age, dinosaurs, princesses, castles and celebrations.

The children have enjoyed transforming the role play area into a frozen castle and exploring the Arctic in the tuff tray. They have been busy finding out facts about the arctic and the animals that live there, in readiness for creating their own fact files.

The children have enjoyed using information books to find out facts about Arctic animals and also learning about the features of the books such as a contents, index, labels and captions.
