The week started with a special assembly run by Mr Beach. Much hilarity ensued when ketchup was squirted at poor Mrs Mathema. However, there was a very serious message behind this since the ketchup demonstrated that messages on the internet stick and can potentially do damage. In addition to this, on Tuesday, the class of 5RS performed a confident assembly to their families and the whole-school on the theme of internet safety.
Throughout the week, the children explored different aspects of cyber safety in their classes; for example, celebrating all the great aspects about the internet as well as the serious messages of consent, not sharing passwords, where to keep digital devices (in a public place not a bedroom) and how to seek help if they are ever uncomfortable or worried about something they encounter on-line.
Each child also attended a special workshop during the week. Our guest Adam Atkinson (Head of Digital Development in Bellevue Schools) ran a special workshop in each class for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 focusing on on-line safety in even greater detail. Our marvellous Year 6 'Digital Ambassadors’ also helped to run workshops for Years 1 and 2 including devising special quizzes to enhance the younger children’s knowledge.
During the week we also held an evening parental workshop and a morning workshop. Adam Atkinson gave parents a really interesting and thought-provoking presentation on how they can help their children keep safe on-line in today’s ever-evolving digital world.
We are pleased that the week was such a success and our children have gained a strong understanding of the key ‘do’s’ and ‘don'ts’ when on the internet.
