| Year 3

In science, the children are learning about forces and magnets. The children understand that the force ‘gravity’ keeps us on the ground and stops us from floating around in space. They can explain the difference between a push and a pull. They enjoyed experimenting outside on the school playground with lots of different playground equipment; skipping ropes, frisbees, bats and balls, and learnt that you use pushes and pulls all the time! In the classroom, they have learnt that forces can change the shape of an object. Each child was given a lump of blu-tac and applied lots of different forces to it – the blu-tac stretched, squashed, twisted and rolled into lots of different shapes. After this the children recorded what they had found out in their books in order to show their understanding. Next they will be finding out how toys move differently and investigating friction.
