| Year 6

To nurture scientific exploration in Year 6 by investigating the properties of eggs.

At the start of the first week back as a year group we looked at the properties of eggs and how they have strength in their structure.

Initially, we explored whether eggs from different chickens would alter how they cracked on impact. This was followed by seeing whether how the orientation of how the eggs were dropped affected how the egg broke.

Many children attempted the challenge of cracking an egg using a pincer grip and they all found out they had insufficient strength to break them. Thus discovering that the egg’s structure had strength beyond its size.

The exciting climax saw each child attempting to balance their body weight on half a dozen eggs to see if they could withstand the pressure.
