This term’s new topic in geography is coastal features. We will be looking at how they are formed and the impact of humans upon the coast.

To introduce the topic we initially looked at the main oceans of the world and discussed how much of the earth’s surface was water and how much was land. Using a globe and atlases the children could then see that there is many thousands of miles of coastline around the world. For their homework they researched and produced posters about a wide variety of coastal features. We have started to categorize the features into man made and naturally occurring. We will be looking at how erosional features such as caves, arches and stacks are formed. In addition to this, we will study how deposited material alters the shape and structure of our coast.
