The Badgers in the Toddler Room have been focusing on Mental Health Week. We started off the week discussing what feelings and emotions are, practising pulling faces to represent the different emotions and then talking about what makes us happy/sad/etc. Our learning moved onto friendships.
We read the story Paper Dolls by Julia Donaldson, created our own paper dolls and took them on adventures to extend our imaginations, we also made friendship bracelets. Then we explored our worries. We listened to the worry monster story, discussed when we might feel worried and the sorts of worries we all feel at different times. We made our own worry monsters in the craft area using salt dough, pipe cleaners, eyes, pom poms and coloured shapes and also baked some monster cakes.
We joined in with some calming meditation to practise our breathing, we then went onto make a breathing wand to help us in times where we may need to take a moment to remember to breath/calm down. We enjoyed making a calm down jar too, we used different materials to decorate them and discussed things that make us happy and ways to calm down when we may be upset or angry.
