| Year 2
As part of our creative writing focus on ‘Journeys’ the children in Year 2 are reading ‘The Tunnel’ by Anthony Browne to stimulate ideas for writing their own portal tale.
In their hook lesson the children worked in groups to think of imaginative words and phrases to describe an image of an old tunnel, thinking carefully about where it could be, how it was made and who or what could possibly be hiding in there.
The children then used their detective skills outside to look for clues to locate the tunnel. As always they had wonderfully imaginative ideas including secret stairways from drains to hidden doorways under oak trees.
Back in the classroom the children enjoyed writing a postcard to a friend telling them about the unexpected letter and the clues they had found, as well as what they thought may be in the tunnel!
