As part of STEM Week, Zoolab presented the children with a fabulous introduction to some rather amazing creatures, including a tarantula called ‘Buttercup’ a snake called ‘Charlie’ and last but not least George the giant snail! They learned about habitats, food, catching and eating prey and camouflage. Most importantly, they were able, if they wanted to, to’ get up close’ and handle the animals. The children were all engaged in this activity and were keen to answer a variety of questions, which tested their prior knowledge and understanding. They were fascinated to learn that George the giant snail had 10.000 teeth and that Buttercup the tarantula liked to live in a hole in the ground! A giant millipede and a baby gerbil, with a wonderful tail trick were also introduced.
