| Year 4
The children started this topic by reading extracts from different adventure stories. From this, the children were able to identify some of the common features used in adventure story writing. One of the main features was the children identified was the use of descriptive language. The children then worked on these skills by writing character and setting descriptions, working particularly on including high-level adjectives, adverbs and similes. Next, the children enjoyed trying to describe emotions by acting them out to help them to describe an emotion rather than actually say what that emotion is (can you guess what emotion the children are showing below?) The children are now using these skills to write their own adventure story about being shipwrecked on a Caribbean island.
