The children started the term by exploring the different types of non-fiction text and explaining some of the features they know about them. We are now exploring persuasive writing in more detail and started by getting the children to do a ‘cold write’, which is where they write a piece of persuasive writing without any teacher input. We then introduced our topic for the unit which is Spy Gadgets! The children then had great fun learning a persuasive advert off by heart by using actions and pictures. After this, we have started to look more closely at the different features of a persuasive advert, such as exaggeration and how to use colons. The aim is then for the children to produce a ‘hot write’ where they can then include all of the different features we have learnt about, to help write a successful persuasive advert about their own Spy School!
