RECEPTION ICE WORK
On Wednesday 20th January, children in Reception worked together to create two colourful ice sculptures in their science lesson.
Through purposeful play and observation the children explored the concepts of freezing and melting. They had great fun talking
about their experiences of ice and there were lots of gasps and sounds of delight when various shaped ice moulds, ice balloons and ice hands appeared out of bags. Parents were very imaginative and creative as
some of the ice had sparkly jewels and a dinosaur or two. We even had scented ice which encouraged the children to use their senses. The
children made several discoveries about freezing cold ice. One child said ‘the ice is floating in the water’ and described what they thought was happening to the ice and why. There were some very good observational drawings of the ice sculptures.
A good time was had by all especially when there were opportunities for the children to play with ice in the water tray independently. JN
