Ludlow Junior U10/11

Report: A special game for me (Mr Purvis) as this was against my previous school. I had mixed feelings when I saw some of the old faces from Year 5 and 6 because although it was good to see some of the old faces, I knew they were skilled footballers. The first half was incredibly close and both teams were playing some great football with the goal posts and cross bars being very busy! Ludlow however, did start to pull away towards the end of the first half with 2 goals to 1. In the second half, the Ludlow manager made some tactical changes which proved profitable as these players took control of the middle and begun to play the ball around Sherborne. Superb commitment from our boys kept the Ludlow team working for it but sadly they did pull away, eventually winning 5 goals to 1. It turns out there is another connection between the two schools as a parent of a Year 6 Sherborne pupil actually went to Ludlow Junior a few years back. Possibly the start of something!

Team: Joe, Ed, Shravan, Aman, Brad, Alfie, Arthur, Freddie.

Player of the Match: As chosen by the Ludlow coach: Aman for superb runs on the ball and great commitment.

Ludlow Junior U10/11

Report: Following on from the B match the A team took on Ludlow’s A team and an extremely entertaining game was played by both teams. Possession was fairly equal throughout the match and both midfields saw a great deal of action. The bar and post came to the rescue of both goalkeepers at times during the match and by half time the teams could not be separated. Ludlow managed to grab the winner midway through the second half and try as they might the boys couldn’t quite force the equaliser which they probably deserved.

Team: Thomas, Archie, George, William, Jack, Aadi, Charlie and Taran

Player of the Match: As chosen by the Ludlow coach: Charlie for superb runs on and off the ball as well as a number of shots that struck the post.

Opposition’s Team U10 A NETBALL

REPORT: The U10 A team played nine matches in the Round Robin stage of this tournament. They were convincing winners of the 10 teams in Pool A and as a result they qualified for the final to decide who would be the overall winner. The final was a nail-biting encounter between two very evenly matched teams and the score went with the centre pass. At the end of the match the scores were drawn 3 – 3, so it was decided that an additional 3 minutes would be played. Sherborne House scored the first goal in extra time but Hall Grove countered with a goal. The ball ping ponged backwards and forwards but eventually Sherborne House scored the deciding goal and with great relief to our supporters and to their teacher the final whistle was blown. Well done girls for the standard of both your netball and your behaviour. PW

TEAM: Thea, Lucy (Captain), Isabella, Evie, Tamsin, Lily, Anu, Sophie and Emily.

PLAYER OF THE TOURNAMENT: Lucy for her excellent shooting throughout the tournament.

Report:  We had to play 9 teams in our section and we won all but one match.  We then went forwards to the final playing the winners of the other section.  We played St Swithun’s in a fast and exciting final.  We took the lead and St Swithun’s equalized.  In a tense, end-to-end match, we held our nerve to win the game 2-1.  Out of 18 teams that participated, we were the Champions!  Well played girls, it was a long afternoon and your skill and determination really paid off.  Thanks to all the parents for their support on the side-lines too!  DS

Team: Roxy, Holly, Honor, Shreya, Jessica, Holly, Elle (C), Anaiya and Sophie.

Player of the Match: All the girls were magnificent; however, both Elle and Jessica were outstanding with their speed on court, sheer determination and resilience under pressure.
